It does not really matter what I find objectionable. That is my personal
choice which does not need to be accommodated or even respected. This is an
unmoderated NG. People here are free to do anything that suits their
standards of upbringing. That is why I did not object to the NG by
addressing anything to anyone in particular. I merely expressed my regrets
to the newcomer because I would not like myself to be treated under such
intense secrutiny by unkown figures in my first venture into an unmoderated
forum.
Here everything goes. I do not have to explain myself to you or anyone else
for that matter for the type of behavior I have exhibited. That I choose to
respond at all is my personal prerogative. I thought that when we ourselves
do not apply such stringent cross checking on ourselves why should we apply
to it newcomers? C'on let us not get paranoid about everything and suspect
everbody else just because we happen to live in the post 911 era.
This is my standard. For example, I have taken the time to compile and send
you the list of my Begam Akhtar songs without bothering to know anything
more about you. It could be just a waste of time just as it was with Surjit
Singh when he asked me to compile and send him several lists of my
collections in electronic, audio cassette, videotape, and CD formats. The
whole exercise came to naught.
Nevertheless, I trust you and have responded because of that. My nature is
such that I trust people in the beginning. That is why I do not ask many
prying or probing questions in the beginning. Sometimes, my trust is
misplaced as it was with the professor. There are other people who do not
trust strangers and ask a lot of questions in the beginning and only later
on latch onto them. Out here in the West children are taught not to trust
strangers. In the East we are taught to treat strangers with love and
respect because they could be God in disguise. I may be wrong. But that is
what I am. That is why, I guess, I respond in such a way.

What, exactly, do you find objectionable in asking someone claiming to
be a journalist to provide confirmation of his identity? Why should we
take at face value a person who asks for information from others
without bothering to reveal his real name or the journal he represents?
That you are willing to respond without bothering to verify his
credentials does not mean that others should follow suit.
