intra-thread spam

Of late many threads start out fine, but are soon hijacked by
absurdity which everyone reacts to. This is to a thread as spam is to
a newsgroup. May be Nishant Sharma, who is so effective in labelling
(and thus neutralizing) newsgroup spam, can tell us how to fight
thread spam?
