Re: Kishori Amonkar's Kafi Kanada?

I tend to agree with Akash on AA - voice throw too different.
With Jayashree Patnekar I have honestly not heard enough of her to
comment on her style (just found two Sawai Gandharva recordings - and
I have to say their are similarities in the voice throw, though the
pitch is still different).
DG I did try speeding up the recording by 10% this makes the taans
ridiculously fast (too fast even for tai!) so I don't think the speed
of the recording is a problem. I changed the pitch to A# and A
(without changing the tempo) and heard it again but it still does NOT
sound like Kishori Amonkar! :(
I can in fact post the augmented recording for your benefit (will be
doing so shortly).
BTW Someone also mentioned that the Tanpura tuning is rather off -
another hint that this could not be Kishori A.
I think Samar's suggestion of Padma Talwalkar is the best guess
according to me...the gamak taans (39-42 mins) are close to what
Padmatai used to sing (post Mogubai taleem days) and the pitch matches
as well. The voice quality also seems similar...
BTW anyone know 'Ashokan' of Sangeethapriya to ask him (her?)
directly?!

Have you guys tried to speed it up? A 10% speedup seems to make it
"natural". (Audacity offers speed change under the effects menu.)
The resulting pitch is still low for Kishoritai, and yes, the way she
says the name of the raga sounds different, but the throat-clearing is
exactly Kishoritai! Also, there is a supporting voice - an unlikely
feature for either Arti A or Jayashri P. Could it possibly be an
early Kishoritai recording? Since Mai was a guru, Tai could possibly
get vocal accompaniment even as a young artist. Manoharji? Can you
say from your vast experience, one way or the other?
