word. but no way could i move to baisingstoke.

kind of, but i dont really go out up here any more unless its clubbing,
in which case im not leaving the club until 7 or 8 am at the earliest,
and can get the first train home (admittedly, i would probably leave
earlier if i could sometimes).
i dont really use the facilities in london any more - all my shopping
is done online bar clothes and im normally tooo wiped out on sundays to
bother with galleries and stuff, so that just leaves keeping the
commute time down but obviously im looking to move away from that,
anyway. so basically its all a bit lost on me nowawadays.

yeah, the longer you leave it the harder it becomes to want to go to
work, as far as i can tell.

probably better paid but theres a lot of c++ programmers floating about
and everyones moving to .net, so virtually no point. also you would
rarely do any new devlopment, it would be code maintenance.
getting some microsoft under your belt is probably the way forward, as
much as, coming from an academic background, it probably pains you.
when i was at college MS were the devil and we were only taught c# so
the bloke could then coat it off in favour of java, but it just seems a
lot easier to get jobs, especially in london, with MS skills. there
seems to be a range of companies out near you, so maybe its different.
i still reckon you should get a job with "the xml software house" or
whatever its called, along the a269, just for a laugh....

depends on what you want to get into, really. i did 5 years of server
side type stuff (albeit in "classic" .asp) and i wouldn't want to go
back. asp.net obviously lets you do more interesting stuff without
having to write a bunch of COM .dlls and handles the fiddly gear like
javascript for you, so thast probably not so bad.
i would like to learn .php though, thats looks useful. or .jsp. and
mysql. but thats just for a website i keep promising myself ill do when
i finally get some time.

sounds like a reasonable expectation, really. not really up for putting
my wages up on rmhh but i do a bit better than that; but ive been
programming for 5 (maybe 4, cant remember when i got into it) years
now, so obviously theres been an extra pay rise or two. i mean, if you
want to work like a madman in the city you could be on 40 or 50k plus
bonuses and stuff within a few years. so if youre just after the big
wages thats where to go.

c# mainly at the moment, but ive done a pile of .asp and a lot of sql
server stuff. done some c++ but its not really my bag and other people
here have way more experience of it so im able to get away with not
dealing with it.
> lol, you know that could be the kick up the arse I need :P
youd haev to be desperate for a kick up the arse to come here.
