We need a new women's health movement
Undeniably true. Men and women both need to
get active, as screening for prostate cancer has
recently been "downgraded" for essentially the
same reasons as the new guidelines cite for breast
cancer screening.
We're all in this together.
My sister-in-law, age 59, is doing very well after
finishing chemo and radiation for Stage I breast cancer.
She is a strong person and has always taken good care
of herself.
There is a link between breast and ovarian, but neither
my sister (who is in remission from ovarian) nor myself
have been tested to see if we have the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene
because it is so expensive, even my sis with Kaiser
Insurance in CA can't get it covered.
My brother is not doing well now after finishing chemo for
B-Cell Lymphoma. It worries the hell out of me, but he is
continuing tests and all pathology results are not in.
It may be unrelated to his cancer, poor guy.
My sweet niece who I've written about is still doing well
3 months after her 2nd bone marrow transplant for Hodg. Lym.
One of our rmgd old friends' dad was just diagnosed with
prostate cancer.

Response from the National Breast Cancer Foundation,
Inc. to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force’s
Recommendations on Breast Self-Exams and Mammograms
At 34 years old, I felt a lump while performing a breast
self-exam. Concerned, I got a mammogram that detected
breast cancer. If it had not been for a breast self-exam
and a mammogram, I would not be alive today and the
National Breast Cancer Foundation would not exist.
This recent recommendation by the US Preventive Services
Task Force is dangerous because it suggests that women
lay down their best weapon in the fight against breast
cancer, which is early detection.
The facts are indisputable. Early Detection saves lives.
Start your plan now at www.nbcf.org/edp and tell someone
you love to make sure they have an Early Detection Plan.
