Dead Night 5/10/09 Thunderbird Cafe playlist & commentary

Hello, Dear Reader! OMG, it's time once again for another fun
installment of Dead Night in Pittsburgh, and here's yer host, TD!
We'll start off by toasting the Penguins, they made it to the Stanley
Cup playoffs for the second year in a row, here's to bringing home the
cup!! "If your cup is full, may it be again!" so steal your face-off
and let's go, Pens! The only fly in the ointment is that Game 2 is
scheduled for this Sunday but the time hasn't been announced. I am
hopeful that it will be an afternoon game but in the event that it's
set for 8:00 (like all the others) it seems that Dead Night's start
time may most likely be delayed until the conclusion of the game. My
dear wife Karen and I will be at the T-bird either way, so head on
over to Lawrenceville and join us, won't you? Meanwhile, here's the
bird's-eye low-down on this caper (whatever that means) and as always,
*= played by request.

9/17/03 Madison Square Garden, New York NY
jam > I Need A Miracle > That Would Be Something > Standing On The
Moon (the jam/space went on a little too long for some folks but alas
my source didn't have each song track-marked so we kick things off
with some avant-garde dissonant improvisation, welcome to Dead
Night! :-) While the music raves on, I warm up the DVD with a couple
of episodes of Star Trek Deep Space 9 that deal with time-travel:
Little Green Men (Ferengi land in Roswell in 1947) and More Trouble,
More Tribbles, which revisits TOS "Trouble With Tribbles", one of my
favorites. That's good eye-candy!)

11/8/79 Capital Center, Landover MD
Not Fade Away > Morning Dew (from the new Road Trips release, kick-
ass)

7/22/84 County Fairgrounds, Ventura CA
*Ship Of Fools, I Just Wanna Make Love To You > Man Smart Women
Smarter, Terrapin Station > drums (another out-of left-field request,
and then later tonight I play Loser from this show to fill another
request)

3/21/94 Richfield Coliseum, Richfield CA
drums > Turn On Your Lovelight > Stella Blue > Turn On Your Lovelight
reprise (I was at this show, what a treat! This was the only time the
GD performed Lovelight out of drums, and the only time they ever split
it up - not to mention the totally incredible Stella Blue! Jerry pours
his heart into this version and the house went bonkers. I saw every GD
show at this venue and this night blew them all away)

5/10/86 Frost Amphitheater, Palo Alto CA
Estimated Prophet > Eyes Of The World (tonight's "this day in GD
history" from a show 23 years ago. I was lucky enough to be at the
last run of shows at the Greek but never made it here, from all
accounts a beautiful venue. The second Star Trek episode has ended, so
while the Frosted Freaks have at it, I replace the video action with
the animation sequence that opens up the GD movie. My sweetie Karen is
not much of a sci-fi fan but me and my Trekker buddy took our wives to
see the new Star Trek movie to see the new Star Trek movie and she
enjoyed it, heads up!)

6/21/89 Shoreline Amphitheater, Mt. View CA (video)
Hideaway, Touch Of Grey, New New Minglewood Blues, Ramble On Rose, Box
Of ain, Dire Wolf, When I Paint My Masterpiece, Row Jimmy, Cassidy,
Deal, Scarlet Begonias > Hell In A Bucket (cool nation-wide pay-per-
view broadcast. I let the video continue while I played the request
for Loser from Ventura, then switched to the next DVD)

10/74 Winterland, San Francisco CA (video)
Uncle John's Band, Sugaree, The Other One > "Spanish" jam > "Mind Left
Body" jam > The Other One, Scarlet Begonias, China Cat Sunflower > jam
I Know You Rider (this was most of the bonus disc from the GD Movie
release, and it is truly awesome. There's more that I will revisit in
the near future, but that's all that we have time for tonight, so stay
tuned!)

Ratdog 4/14/01 Royal Oak MI
* Me And My Uncle (a last minute request, I didn't think I would have
time for this one and advised the guy accordingly but what the hell,
it's only a fewminutes long so as he's walking out, I spring this on
him and he comes dancing right back in to enjoy it! Did you know that
this song is the song that the GD played the most often? Now you do!)

Okel-dokel, that will wrap up this installment. Please be kind to each
other and have a positive day. Go Pens!! TD

The tiger can't change his spots. No, wait, he did! Good for him!
