Damn....NO ONE mentioned the epic Saratoga NY
1983 gig yet??...and you call yerselves Dead Heads!
That might have been the most fun I ever had at a Dead gig.
Wasnt that 1984, June or July I think? It was an absolute blast, and
rained like hell.
But it does tend to rain a lot at the SPAC shows, IMO.

Actually it was both 83 and 84, The rain at the 84 gig was of biblical
purportions. Absolutely incredible. That was also the show where we
ended up giving our friend Amy's boyfriend back from the show

That geyser/spring STINKS! Oh dear lord, does it stink. Does it have a
high sulphur content or something? I saw a head make the mistake of
drinking that stuff once: It was NOT a pretty sight.
Not only is there a high sulphur content, but the water is also
mildly
radioactive (naturally, not from man made pollution)
When we were there in 84 my wife's friend Amy's boyfriend Loren (who
had
hitchhiked out there) caught the most disgusting looking fish I have
ever
seen from the stream. He then proceeded to cook and eat said fish. It
was
only AFTER he had finished eating the fish that he (we actually
pointed it
out to him LOL) saw the sign saying that the water was unsafe to drink
and has
radioactive elements in it.
I never liked the guy in the first place, so I was laughing my ass off
at
him. (I had bailed him out of jail in Salisbury Beach and he never
paid me
back, I had to deal with his drunken antics on numerous occasions and
basicly he always rubbed me the wrong way)
The worst part of that whole show was driving home in the pooring rain
with
one more person than we had come with (yeah, you guessed it, Loren)
and
having to continually tell him to stop putting his feet against the
back of
my seat, and listening to his annoying drivel ALL night long as we
drove
down the Mass Turnpike
Nothing like having to deal with a wet smelly obnoxious hippy who
stinks of
radioactive fish : )
God I miss being young : )

The other thing I remember about that 84 SPAC show was the absolutely
terrifying space in the pouring rain, thunder and lightning everywhere
and Jerry seeming playing off of and against mother nature. (I was
dosed out of my mind, that's how I remember it)
Dancin in the Streets was a great opener too. Satisfaction and Baby
Blue made a great encore as well.

anyone remember how many people were crammed into the pavilion at SPAC
during the montster rain. i remember Phil telling some head in the
upper deck who was sitting on the ledge to "get off...that first step
is a doozy" it was just pouring in 84. Lots of war stories off that
summer tour. Anyone remember the "ramble on rose bus" that crashed in
a severe thunderstorm between KC and Cedar Rapids? someone lost their
life in that one and the band dedicated the second set to the fallen
head that 4th of July evening in Iowa.
