You're closer to SW Wisconsin, other than that the fishing down
here is better. The Kickapoo is the only federally designated
Wild & Scenic River in Illinois and the smallmouth fishing is
good there and in its tribs. Lots of small, deep lakes full of
largemouth and bluegill that used to be strip mines for coal
just down the road and the big lakes you've no doubt heard of,
Shelbyville and Clinton. Other than proximity to trout it's
better here and because of traffic I can be on Michigan's Holy
Waters, (Au Sable), faster than you, unless you live in Gary, IN.

Winona sounds good but I'm guessing the wife aint a flyfisher/
outdoorsie-type so those benefits you mention dont do much for her.
Whats that old saying......an unhappy wife means an unhappy
life.....or something like that.

My wife is definitely an outdoorsy type, just not a fly
fisher or a hunter. I'm positioning Winona as the compromise
retirement option. She wants Chicago, I tell her I want
Boulder Junction, Wisconsin or Grand Marais, Minnesota and
so we split the difference settling for Winona. Anyway, that's
the plan, we're still 2+ years away from Retirement Day.

Yeah, I've fished the Kick and the Middle Fork of the Vermillion-neat
little streams.

Heading up north soon, word has it the mayfly hatch just started which
means the fish, especially the walleyes, will be feasting on the
wigglers which means a tougher fishing trip. Oh well, and so it
goes....
