Summer 1971

oh it was hot in Tucson in 1971,up at 4 to build adobe homes, off at
noon. Stoned and in the pool by 1. And humid in New Jersey but drunk
under the shadow of the Barnegat Lighthouse. . But just right on the
summer vacation to San Diego. Where on the radio 3 songs ,er ok 4,
were in regular rotation. Truckin, Maggie May, Shaft and Ain't No
Sunshine.
THe week in San Diego a block from the ocean did also produce the
first GD "what if" moment. There was advertising going on for the Dead/
NRPS show here in San Diego, I debated going alone, and of course
should have. It ws teh day after the Hollywood show with teh best Hard
To handle ever. The first of a few missed pre-deadhead opportunities
to go see them. Maggie May might be dissed now,but back in the summer
of 71 the mando intro was a nice change, that whole album kicks ass.
YMMV And what can you say about Shaft, but shut yer mouth!
