Right. But you still seem to be having trouble with the conceptual
leap that doubling capital gains tax rates WILL NOT "double taxes on
45 million households (the majority of which are middle class) that
have money invested in some sort of retirement fund."

Actually Ray, you're on to something. I don't think that 45 million
households will pay a higher tax rate. Their money will likely cash out
ahead of time or stay unproductive. The CGT will double, but that doesn't
mean that smart money will zombie walk into a meat grinder.
