I have no idea why people are doing this, I didn't understand the

What am I missing?

the pleasures of the Google Groups GUI. Those hundred word subject
headers make it well nigh impossible to find the real NG content with
the Google GUI. But the Google GUI changes the thead name to whatever
the most recent poster changed the subject header to, so *poof* the
paragraph-long subject headers disappear in a puff of smoke. That's
why Jeff has been doing it. It was Fred's idea, actually, he used to
change thread titles to "cs" for "crossposted swill," or just plain
"s" for swill of a non-crossposted variety. (FWIW< Fred caught some
*** for it, so now he goes around giving others *** for it. It's
like the cycle of child abuse.)

I guess you really have to see it to understand. Click here:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.music.gdead/topics?hl=en

After you go to that page, click the "older" link, and you'll see a
bunch of pargraph-long subject headers on the second page.

Thanks for explaining.

Of course doing this just gums up the group for everyone using an actual
newsreader. Don't know why people can't use Outlook, it comes on just about
every PC. Its super easy to filter out all the junk even on that primitive
reader. Google is the worst imaginable way to read this group, and when
there's super simple, familiar, and free ways to do that, I don't get whay
anyone would be using Google.

Not a big deal, I was just scratching my head why anyone would think adding
more junk would help.......
