The failure of record labels, movie, publishing and production
companies to pay Levon and his Band mates their fair performance and
publishing royalties added insult to injury during this time when
every dollar counted. (Record and movie deals negotiated by The Band's
trusted lawyers and accountants, in retrospect, seem designed to work
for the entertainment companies and not for the artists.)
Aside from Roger McGuinn's testimony before Congress, I've never read such
a clearer statement before that said: Support your favorite musicians by
paying to see them perform live.
And, the music industry wonders why copyright infringement is so rampant.
