Brad, why even bother? Carrie and honesty are two words that don't fit
together at all. Keep your teeth.

Funny, JC you are one of the biggest bull*** artists I've come across
on usenet. It doesn't matter if you know what you are talking about or
not, you shoot from the hip and talk expertly and often
condescendingly on everything from the mysterious Sheryl Crow lawsuits
to motherhood to being deadier than thou to ad infinitum. Not than it
matters, but I've been as honest as possible in this thread.
Originally I was off on the current tax rate percentages and corrected
that. No matter what I say, I'll still get the obligatory digs from
you and {fill in the blanks}.
I'm not sure what Brad Greer wants to hear. Do I have to be pro-death
tax to make everyone happy or reveal more personal info? By nature I
recoil at the feds coming to collect their substantial (can we agree
there?) cut at the death of the a second parent. The Mob has more
class that this! Others disagree and think hey yer a millionaire, you
deserve to get soaked. Anyway, it ALWAYS has to get personal.
tax, you're free to feel however you want. But your characterization
of the estate tax in general (calling it the "death tax", comparing
the IRS to the Mob, saying the feds collect a "substantial" amount of
money on a person's passing when most estates pay nothing and those
that do pay under 25%) is clearly wrong. I also highly doubt a person
who once posted they hoped to someday have enough money to buy a new
Honda Accord (or similar mid-range automobile, I don't remember the
exact make and model you posted about) is actually looking at a
parent's estate that is so substantion (within the top .5% of all
estates in the US) that it will have to pay 40% estate taxes.
My father was a very private person, Brad. And we were raised with these frugal values. My dad's last car was a five year old Buick. He gave away of what he made to charities and individuals. I knew you'd bring the car thing up..I remember that conversation. In May, I upgraded to a 2004 BMW 325 xi (22, 000 miles). I went in with my eye on a Volkswagen off lease and left with "the ultimate driving machine" that burns more gas. I'm not complaining. Jerry Garcia had a couple. They must be good!
I'll leave your mother's estate out of this, because you don't feel
comfortable providing details, that's your perogative. I'd like to
know from you your feelings on the estate tax in general,
specifically:
1) How many people do you think have to pay an estate tax? I don't
need a number such as 3,423,142 people per year, let's talk
percentages.
2) How many families that are in farming as their primary means of
income have had to sell the family farm?
3) What percentage of the actual estate does the government typically
take?
All of the above are factual issues with public information available.
I'm not a CPA. All I know is our situation and I said a plenty.
Enjoy your day!
