On no - NOT only in Marin - The Eastside suburbs of Seattle are
packing to over-capacity with these types. Lots do come from
California, and also from any hellhole city in the US and abroad. The
"montessoris" - or whatever they call yuppie day-care centers - all
have parking lots where every vehicle is a gigantic SUV or a mid-level
Mercedes/BMW the family can scarcely afford - of course necessitating
the mothers to work overtime, and have some underpaid strangers raise
the precious child.

While our son was small, I drove $700 beaters or took mass
transportation to work for years so my wife could stay home as long as
possible with him.

opportunity afforded by most well-run child care centers.

What a pile of crap. Kids have plenty of opportunities for socialization
with out being dumped in "Child Care Centers" I worked third shift and
my wife worked first shift until Matt was in school full time so that at
least one of us was around FT. Most of the kids who were in Daycare
programs were out of control brats in our neighborhood.

Daycare serves a purpose for single parents or families where both
parents have to work, but I find that most "Career Women" do their
children a severe injustice by working instead of being Mommies first.
And around here there are plenty of career women who put their careers
first

Anyone who believes that daycare is a better option than having at least
one stay at home parent is a moron.

Not at all. I just thought that it was an absurd comment. Certainly
Daycare is necessary for a lot of folks. But to imply that Daycare for a
preschool age child is preferable to being with a parent is ludicrous.
There are plenty of opportunities for kids to socialize with other kids.

Not on those grounds ... I do thing that a good quality day care program has
an opportunity to help prepare students for school ... the Title I programs
have demonstrated that over and over. And in this day and age, school
readiness is an issue.

But more to the point, taking it to the "yer a moron" stage seems a wee bit
harsh.

Yes, that was rather bad form. The post to which I responded raised
the notion and I carried it on.

But tell me you've never done any judging based on the driver's
car......

4-wheel drive pickup with a lift kit, oversized tires, and a gun rack,

'65 VW westfalia with dead stickers and scot at the wheel.
