I currently stand at 47 shows downloaded but not yet extracted/listened
to...whyyyyyy??? Heh. Because there's a LOT of interesting stuff out
there.
I'm gonna need a bigger hard drive.

Le't see ... I have downloaded over a terabyte from Lossless Legs alone, and
probably have extracted less than one percent of that. Sigh. So you have a
ways to go before you become a fool, I think.

You raise the question of storage. All of mine has been transferred to DVD.
Hard to say what the better route is, in terms of archival longevity. But I
suspect the good quality DVDs (I use Taiyo Yuden) will still be readable
when the hard drives have failed. I think it is a much cheaper way to go as
well, and uses up less space. I have GD from birth through 1978 on less
than three 100 DVD spindles. I could be wrong, but even if 10 percent fail
I still have more music than I can listen to in a lifetime.

There is some great, great music out there of all genres ... but I do
encourage you to keep an eye out for the full-year offerings of GD on
Jerome's place and shnflac.net (Lossless Legs).

But see, then I think to myself, well as long as RICHARD has everything, why
should I even bother keeping it all? I can just ask him if I ever need
anything :)

Honestly I'm downloading much less Dead than everything else. Come on, who
among us doesn't have more Dead than they can listen to? But today I dl'ed a
show of Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, which I've been wondering about for
awhile now (I think Ivan is the Neville that's too hip-hop for my tastes,
not sure) and Little Feat from 1978 with a guest appearance by everyone's
favorite blues hussy Bonnie Raitt, and the Phil and Trey Vegoose show I
posted about...then there WERE two nice Dead shows that jumped to my
attention and had LOTS of seeds, 4/11/78 and 2/19/73...I find it much more
rewarding when a show takes 6 hours to download rather than 3 days...no
wait, I think Ivan is the guitar player I like, and Ian the kepyboard player
I'm not crazy about...hmmm...suddenly I look forward to hearing that show
even more...

Steve
