That would include Pelosi, Boxer, and probably even Lynn Woolsey. Do
you
know her position on the Emergency Supplemental spending bill? Will she
be
voting for it? If so, she will be voting to continue funding the war.
From today's SF Chronicle:
"But Woolsey said she will vote no and doesn't think a defeat for the
legislation would be a major setback. "If we lose, we could
reconnoiter and try again,'' she said Monday.'
"This is a vote of conscience for me,'' she said. "Even if I am the
only one voting against it, I know why. It has nothing to do with
undermining my leadership. It has to do with bringing the troops
home.''
Surely, watching C-SPAN all the time, you've seen at least several of my
Congresswoman's 200 anti-war speeches delivered from the floor of the
House of Representatives.
As I've said before, Lynn Woolsey speaks for me. And she speaks for Marin
County, her constituency.
That's why I asked. I was unsure of her position on the bill. She does
reflect your viewpoint.
Barbara Boxer on the other hand, does not. She voted for a resolution that
said funds would not be reduced or cut off as long as troops are in the
field, and I bet she will vote for the supplemental bill that continues to
fund the war for another year. Her position is more anti-war than those
who oppose the Murtha conditions and the 9/08 deadline, but she does not
reflect your viewpoint.
Meanwhile, on C-Span right now a group of conservative activists including
David Keane (the head of the Conservative Union), Richard Viguerie
(conservative direct mail guru), former congressman Bob Barr (a Clinton
impeachment manager), Bruce Fein (a former Reagan assistant attorney
general) and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul are announcing a
program to strongly oppose the executive power grab of GW Bush. They're
citing the rampant abuses of the Patriot act (spying on our mail, phone
calls, bank records, etc), renditions, military commissions, the suspension
of habeus corpus, and presidential signing statements, among other Bush
abuses. They say we are moving towards a police state.
They call it the American Freedom Agenda, and are asking all Republican
presidential candidates to sign onto it. Paul did so. They say they will
hit the cable shows, talk radio, use direct mail, and use all the tactics
conservatives generally utilize to fire up the base and gain support.
I know they do not reflect your views on many things; but they sure reflect
mine on these issues. Its quite telling that even some prominent
conservative Republicans are outraged enough at the Bush adminstration to go
to these lengths.
It will be interesting to see if Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and the other
blind Bush supporters on the right give these guys an opportunity to state
their case. They've all been regulars on these shows in the past; we'll
have to see if they have any impact.
