These are just a few among the many....
Being interviewed during a New Years show by Tom Davis (of Franken and
Davis) about baking "holiday Treats" and doing lots of jokes about the
sugar, which I always thought was really meant to be about cocaine
Jerry, Bob, and Los Lobos singing "this Land is Your Land" on 7/4 outside a
show some place
Jerry interviewed on the Today Show by Gene Shalit at about 7:45 AM after
playing at the Garden, (and about two days before coming to Utica). He was
making jokes about not having been to sleep yet and how this was his ususal
bedtime.
Jerry and the band on the Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder. They played a few
songs and were interviewed and he was funny and articulate as usual.
Garcia had a way of speaking where he always sounded amused, even when he
was obviously angry or frustrated about something. He had a style of
speaking that was really interesting, whether on video or even just audio, a
really distinctive speaking voice.
He was a huge fan of the three stooges and comedy.
My first show was 9/28/77 in Syracuse and my last was 6/12/95 in Albany and
there were about 74 in between those two. Plus lots of jerry shows, about
seven hundred hours of cassettes (that sit alone in my basement) and many,
many hours of down loads.
I wonder how many guitar players out there were heavily influenced by
Garcia's style in some way? I have played all my life and definetly think
he has been my biggest musical influence. Plus the Dead opened so many new
musical doors for me I never would have found on my own, in many different
directions.
Thanks again Jerry, where ever you are.
