(NDC) Why should *I* be worried about NSA wire tapping?

Ok, here's the deal...........
Until the latest act of treason being sloppily passed off for actual
journalism
(USA Today) I was pretty much dismissing the NSA phone spying blather as
so much liberal/Democrat demagoguery in the name of Bush hatred. Actually,
most of it still is. *BUT*..... I'm starting to see more and more
conservatives/
Republicans also starting to question this whole domestic "spying" mess.
Granted, some Republicans are doing it for the sole purpose of distancing
themselves from Mr. "31% approval" sitting in the White House. But other
conservatives who are not running for anything are also weighing in against
the NSA phone thing. Yea, I give more weight the the opinions of Republican
and conservatives than I do the libbies. So I'm bias, shoot me. anyhow.......

If I'm going to tweak my opinion on this "right to telephone privacy" issue
I would at least like to know *why*. Right now I don't. Right now I agree
that the government listening in on private American's phone calls would
be a very bad thing. But I only agree because that's the popular consensus
of almost ALL Americans no mater what their political/social views happen
to be. But I'm just going with the flow here. I personally don't give a rat's
ass WHO may or may not be a silent 3rd party participant when I call for
a large double cheese -w- bread sticks and 3 X-L root beers. I'm not doing
anything I need to keep secret from the powers that be. Hell, the one and
only government entity that I would rather NOT know about me, likely already
knows more about ME than ME . (Read: the IRS). I'm not a terrorist and
don't do anything even remotely criminal. And IMO, anyone stupid enough
to use the telephone lines to commit a criminal act deserves whatever sort
of legal misfortune they may reap in doing so.

Here's a possible week's worth of phone calls by a regular American family
who have nothing to do with terrorism and is not involved in criminal
activity.

Sunday: Father Calls his friend Ali-BingBang in Iraq to see if he sent
that beautiful Persian rug he ordered from his little shop in Baghdad.

Monday: Mother calls relatives in England.

Tuesday: Kid #1 calls friend to go climb trees in the local park.
Friend calls Kid #1 back, but is too chicken to climb trees.

Wednesday: Kid #2 (a teen girl with a cell phone that appears to have
become one with her right ear.) calls the entire state of Connecticut.

Thursday: Kid #3 (teen boy -w- more zits than brain cells) calls for tickets
to a concert by a band that scares the livin' *** out of his parents.

Friday: Father calls boss at home because he forgot to ask him if he
wanted him to work on Saturday.

Saturday: Father too hung over from Friday night. Father calls in sick.

So somebody clue me in here.
If the worst of the worst becomes a reality and the government, legally
or illegally, is listening in on private citizen's phone calls. What could
the U.S. government (Or anyone else for that matter) do with the info
gathered in that week's worth of phone calls that could negatively affect
that family now or in the future? I can understand why political people
would be concerned because snooping could be used against political
rivals. But why should regular, every day people be worried? This is
not sarcasm or wizeassery, I'm serious. Tell me why *I* should be
changing my mind on this issue? What bad things could happen to
*****me****** if the U.S. government can listen to my phone calls?
Why should ordinary people like me (Yea, it's a bit of a stretch) give
domestic phone spying a second thought (Or a first one for that matter)
come election time in November and again in 2008?

I'd like an intelligent answer, so Joe, don't even bother. We already
know that Bin-Laden is Bush's moral superior. We already know that
the Republican party is so corrupt that intel on the mafia reads like
the West Side Story by comparison. We already know that U.S.
soldiers make the brown shirts look like the boy scouts. We know
the U.S. is a totalitarian state run by the devil himself. We already
know that America is by far the worst country this planet has ever
seen. We know the world is doomed and it's all Bush's fault. We
all know this stuff already, so save unnecessary wear and tear on
your keyboard Joe, we've heard it all before. Been there, done that.

ENLIGHTEN ME.
Peace,
Mark
