This is the problem with how we deal with drug addiction in this
country - it's not a criminal problem, it's a medical problem. Putting
Gooden in jail might cause him to get clean but when he gets out he'll
face all the same temptations again.
It's just as easy to get drugs in jail than on the street, if not easier.
Gooden knows this I'm sure. Nobody goes to jail to "get clean". In fact,
many a drug habit begins in jail. One why Gooden chose jail over rehab...
It's hard to believe someone would elect to go to prison as a way of
getting easy access to drugs, though.
FWIW, David Crosby got clean in prison.
