Re: (NDC) Anyone have back problems? Seen a chiropractor?

I have had serious low back problems for over 20 years. I know what
works for me, but I'm flexible about how I treat it. As you can see
from all the responses, this is a very common ailment, but what works
for one person may or may not work as well or at all for someone else.
From drugs to yoga to accupuncture to surgery, on and on.
So sift through and consider all the advice and such and, hopefully,
you'll find what works for you.
But, I have to disagree with anyone who says to you " why not try it?,
you have nothing to lose..." You can suffer serious nerve damage if not
properly diagnosed and treated accordingly. In worst case scenarios,
you could loose bladder/bowel control or suffer weakness in your legs
and feet. Not all back injuries are spinal injuries, but it can happen.
Someone I know well had to have emergency back surgery that saved him
from this kind of serious, permanent spinal damage. He was being
treated regularly by a Chiropractor, suffering from what seemed a
nagging, painful, but not disabling back problem. Woke up one morning
and couldn't piss. He talked to his practicioner and she was smart
enough to tell him to go to the ER immediately. If he had delayed for
very long, the damage would have been permanent. After his surgery, he
continued sessions with the Chiropractor, no worse off, and maybe a bit
better for the surgery.
I'm just saying, do as much research as you can so that you can discuss
your concerns with whoever treats you without having to rely solely on
them for an understanding of what wrong and what's being treated. They
have a bias, all of them. That doesn't mean they can't help you, just
that you need an independant understanding of what's what.
Back pain just sucks, to the power of ten. But it can be dealt with, I
think.
Good luck.
