I am anything but narrowminded. I too spent money(I probalbly spent enough
money following the Dead to have paid for at least one or two semesters of
Annabelles college.......) on shows that were poor to merely average for
many of the reasons that you listed. (That and the fact that even on an off
night, there was still nothing like a Grateful Dead concert.)

The point that seems to be getting lost in this whole mess is that there was
never a change in their policy. Trading is still permitted and they have
always said that they retain the right to decide how unreleased shows are
made available and in what format they can be downloaded.

I have no illusions about the politics with in the band, I know that they
have feet of clay and that in their personal lives there are probably some
less than seemly goings on, especially when it comes to the interpersonal
relationships within GDP and GDM. However none of that makes a whit of
difference to me. I enjoy their music, and don't begrudge them their right
to decide what to do with it. I figure that the least I can do is respect
whatever decisions they make. That doesn't mean I have to like it, merely
that I respect it.

And yeah, I do like messing with the heads of ungrateful punks who seem to
think that they ARE owed something by the band
