Ok, here's my .02 on the whole archive thing: These guys have given so
many people so much joy and pleasure for so many years I won't begrudge
them a penny of profit they can make from their music. I seriously
doubt they are as rich as some people believe. Their early years should
be a cautionary tale to any musician about poor choices and outright
theft from people around them.
As I am in their age group, looking forward to retirement, hoping I
won't be forced to continue working until I am 70 years old, just to
provide for a family and my own food, shelter and medical expenses, I
understand a buck doesn't go as far as it used to.
But, if they want a "Champagne and Porche" lifestyle, fine, I think
they have earned whatever they want. I won't be boycotting their
merchandise or shows. Several items from the GD store are on my Xmas
list for both giving and receiving, and I'll be going to as many shows
as I can, be it Ratdog or P+F, or "the Dead" if that ever happens, and
I will be grateful that they are still out there making music for their
fans.
That said, I wish I had downloaded more of their music fron the archive
while I had the chance. But, I know the music is still out there for
trade and downloading, so I won't cry over it or turn against them.
Peace,
Ron
