Well, those quail ain't going anywhere this winter and they get hungry. You
should see them, everybody feeds them and they're huge!
More quail are killed by my sliding glass door than anything else. BAM!
Despite the decals........
Then a Kresler's Falcon, Red Tailed Hawk, or some huge Raven swoops down and
eats them.

No bears in my neighborhood, although they say there are black bears on
Grizzly Mtn..

I'm putting in a fence so they don't eat all of my landscaping...........
My neighbor puts out alfalfa bales and crabapples for the deer. Either
that draws them to my property or draws them over to his, not sure which is
which.
Considering they'd be down in the alfalfa fields at the bottom of the road
if they weren't in my neighborhood, and considering all the ranchers allow
hunting, and considering its hunting season seemingly all year long here,
they're better off getting fed in a safe place. Not that I'm doing it.

No thanks!
They do let me come pretty close to take their pictures though.

Very few coyotes around here.

The quail agree.
So do the robins, little songbirds, bluebirds, doves, etc.

That leaves my neighborhood out. You think I'm rich or something? This is
blue collar retiree heaven; ex-loggers, mill workers, road guys, utility
linemen, military, etc. Half the neighborhood is manufactured homes. This
is America baby!
Picture a bunch of flannel shirt, CAT hat wearing, grizzled old geezers
riding their old beat up yard tractors around while dragging a chain to
scrape the weeds from the ground around their trailers. Then they get out
the old beat up chainsaws and start hacking at the juniper branches under 6
feet high to create a safe fire perimeter. Then they throw all the woody
debris into old oil barrels (or just big piles) and have a bonfire. EVERY
WEEK. Sometimes it looks like a 3rd world country around here with all the
fires going.
I use a chipper so I can have mulch.
We have some families with kids too, its not like this is an age restricted
community. Its a bunch of trailers and some houses on some hills above some
ranches near a small town in the middle of nowhere. Neither the county nor
the HOA own the roads, but we have some old guys who used to work for Oregon
DOT that throw down some gravel, sand, etc when we need it. They do it for
free, just like the guys who fix the wells and cisterns.

LOL.
There are two conditions in my CC&R's: no celebratory gunfire on any day
other than July 4 or New Years Eve, and no "permanent" livestock (I want a
temporary llama). They politely suggest you don't deer fence your entire
property as some enjoy having them around. I'm just doing about half an
acre so I can protect my plants and restrain my future numerous dogs. I was
thinking of three or four.

Bambi is a euphemism for young girlfriend. The true environmentalists are
just jealous.

Oh, its small enough alright..........
