My mother and I have always drank coffee to relax, not for energy.
Caffeine's never had any stimulant effect on either of us, and we both
have blood pressure that's on the low side.
I don't drink coffee that often, but when I do, I prefer it late in the
evening to help me unwind -- it's especially helpful when the insomnia
acts up (ever since I was a kid, I've had transient bouts that last a
few weeks).
My father, on the other hand, can only have one or two cups before noon
or else he's on edge for the rest of the day and has a hard time falling
asleep at night. He takes high blood pressure medicine.
My sister's one of those people who needs half a pot of coffee in the
morning in order to function. I don't know what her blood pressure's
like, but she probably would have said something if it were high.
