One place I agree completely with scot - Seriously underrated in the
realm of modern electric guitarists.
Weir invented his own style of playing rythym guitar. It was the
perfect compliment to the other elements of the Grateful Dead, and it
took me years to even begin to understand what he was doing. His
concept of melody and chord structure is advanced, and the GD would not
have had the same magic without him.
AND he's a damn good songwriter. People used to rag on it, but listen
to Throwing Stones from a songwriting perspective sometime. Or Brother
Esau, many of those '80s Weir songs are excellent. Then there's
Playin', Estimated, Cassidy, LL Rain, and a score of other classics....
Any Bob critic oughta try to write ONE song in the same league.
