being pissed isn't the proper response, unless of course you're a

stop asking why did someone let this happen? who is to blame? and start

i've asked myself HOW to help: donated money to the red cross ( matched
by my employer) , packed a big box of toiletries, towels and underwear
to send to the survivors (going out tomorrow) and offered my home to a
family in need, even if i am 1500 miles away

the knee jerk reaction in this usenet is to blame the President, which
in this case especially, is totally presposterous

First of all, I've donated money. I guess I didn't expect that I would have to reveal what an amazing patriot I am for this incredible deed on my part. And it truly amazes me how people are willing to be Bush's lap dog no matter what. Who's blaming him for the damage? No one. His lack of interest and delay in response is what he should be called out on the carpet for. But no, one can't criticize their commander in chief. During times of crisis, we must see our President as our lord and savior. To do otherwise would be un-American. ###########

JC, I call it the parable of *** on the upper lip.

See, the republicans elected this sumbitch. And he and his cronies have gone around and figuratively spread *** on the upper lip of everyone in their party. There have been two responses to this. Some have gotten so used to the stench, that they no longer smell it and think all is well. Others take lots of deep, sniffing breaths and proclaim how good it smells.

Me? All I see is a pretty large number of people wandering around with *** on their upper lips.

Exactly. And given that most independents have wiped the *** off their upper lip according to polls, including myself on some issues I might add, it's curious to me all these supposed non-partisan types who pretend to be anything other than a far-right winger. Cause Bush is all act when to comes to common people's interests.

Blah blah blah...

Once again, this post has gone straight to nothing but politics. Does every subject come back to politics here?

I would suggest that repeating the same stuff over and over here is like yelling at the ump from the upper deck of yankee stadium..

And your posts are about what?

My orignal post was that folks have to blame someone, when in fact this was just a massive, massive hurricane that we are not prepared for. It would be nice to see everyone get off the political rhetoric for a few weeks.

Nice if you're a Bush supporter. Frankly, it's a political trick to play the card you're playing.

Its stacking up as the worst natural disaster in American history. Its only been 5 days and everyone wants to blame someone and some politcal party.

No, I want to criticize the slow response and unpreparedness by the federal government. It's already coming out that Bush diverted funds from the levee project to the war in Iraq.

Timing is everything. What would you be saying if this storm hit in 1999?
The levees would have failed, the response would have been difficult and people would have died.

And those levee projects would have taken years and years to do. In fact, I would assume if such a project was under way last week, that section and other sections would still have failed. Bottom line is the city was a timebomb. Much like some parts of california and the potential for a massive earthquake. If that happens, the situation will be much the same. Life isnt perfect and this is a disaster.Hopefully, it will bring out the best in people.

How can you respond when there are no airports, no roads, no fuel, no communication, no infrastructure for 4 days. Do you really think just because its america we can snap our fingers and suddenly its all ok?

Logistics are the real problem. Every plane and helicopter requires a lot of support and fuel. Its just not humanly possible to make it appear this fast.

You can march in troops on ground and helicopter, which they will be doing in the coming days. You can make food and water drops. No, it can't be a perfect response. But "no response" while watching politicians get on TV patting themselves on the back is pathetic. It warrant criticism.
