And so, the 3-syllable version:

The Call of Simorgya
ttto "The Mary Ellen Carter" by Stan Rogers

It vanished long ago when it was swallowed by the sea,
A land a six-day sail from where Rime's island rises free,
Their magic ruled the wind and waves and creatures down below,
Still, below is where Simorgya had to go.
The night that it went under, sailors for its coast were bound,
But day revealed a rolling swell instead of rising ground,
And though succeeding journeys proved it now beyond their ken,
Some were certain that Simorgya'd rise again.

My people sailed of old to far Simorgya's shores to raid,
With treasure wrought of gems and gold their efforts were repaid,
And though it's been long centuries since first they found it gone,
Still the legend of its booty lingers on.
Now there are those who'll tell you there was never such a place,
And almost all the rest are sure it died beneath the waves,
But now the son of old Laerk has yielded to his yen,
And he's sworn he'll see Simorgya rise again.

Chorus:
Rise again, rise again,
That her wealth not be lost to the pockets of men,
And those who've missed her treasure since she met her sudden end
Are sailing hard to see Simorgya rise again.

A fellow thought it witty then to mock that questing vow,
But young Laerk's a ready dirk -- there's no more jesting now,
And though, before, his preparations seemed a trifle slow,
Not a doubt remained that he would truly go.
He built himself a galley, dragon-headed, swift and black,
And manned it with a Mingol and with Northmen strong of back,
And laid a vow of silence on himself and on his men,
Till they'd found where lost Simorgya lies again.

For he couldn't bear to think that all that treasure should be lost,
He'd go to find and bring it back, though seas and stars be crossed,
So from our little harbor, then, the galley'd swiftly run,
Sailing out toward the yellow morning sun.
But now a year and more has passed and still he's not returned,
And of Simorgya's whereabouts, I fear he's never learned,
And lately voices in my head have raised in me that yen:
I must go to see Simorgya rise again.

[Chorus] x2
