39 Years Ago Today

The really sad thing is that I wrote this song about twenty years ago.

A WALK AT TWILIGHT
TTTO: A DAISY A DAY
Larry Kirby

I remember the first time we landed
When I was a child of fourteen
I remember how I sat enchanted
At the pictures on my T. V. screen
I remember the whole world was watching
Was nothing that we couldn't do
We looked then to Mars and to Venus
And the stars that we'd reach 'fore we're through

Chorus
We landed a man on the moon, friends
We landed a man on the moon
And the stars in the sky and the planets close by
We thought we'd be reaching them soon

In the seventies I was discouraged
I despaired as the eighties went by
It wasn't that we couldn't do it
It seemed no one wanted to try
We had aimed at the moon in the sixties
We had made it in less than ten years
But the distance to Mars and to Venus
It just seemed to get longer each year

Chorus

Now I walk all alone in the evening
And I stop and look up at the sky
When I think of what we could have done there
I shake my head slowly and sigh
I remember the dreams of my childhood
That the next giant leap would come soon
Then I look at the stars in the heavens
And remember the Man on the Moon

Chorus
.
