The Last Time I See Paris
May be sung to the tune of "The Last Time I Saw Paris," by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II.

A female known as Paris, so tawdry and vapid
Won't stay away from cameras, nor just fade from view

Shallow hacks with microphones condemn her as too vain
And yet their gaze is fixed, although there's nothing there

No good cause to stare

The last time I see Paris cannot come soon enough
I try to watch the evening news and all I get is fluff

The last time I see Paris my soul will feel renewed
No matter if she disappears or just goes pay-per-view

She crowds out better stories the public needs to know
The press thinks that her antics belong on every show

The last time I see Paris, if I can just be frank
I'm willing to lay odds down that her stare will still be blank

Although it's not her doing, the world she represents
Where life is lived through viewing, that's what I resent

Still no cure for cancer, or for the common cold
But we have bleach-blond princesses distracting us each night

Until they get old

I'm doing this off just the lyrics, and without the entire tune in my skull just now, since of all the musicals and films I've bought, none of them have this tune (It was in 1941's "Lady Be Good," and the 1954 film "The Last Time I Saw Paris," which was not based on that song, but rather _Babylon Revisited_...but I digress again). Suggestions and comments welcome!

Best,
Perry
