Re: How Barry Gold's Doing: Was Re: Nuestro Himno

Lee,

Just caught up with this. Please pass along our heartfelt wishes for a
speedy and eventful recovery now and over the last month. Alas, we are not
young. But still ready to party. We look forward to Barry partying when
this is all over.

--Lee, who just brought Barry home from an overnight stay in the
hospital following a somewhat nightmarish day ("Mrs. Gold, your husband
may be having a heart attack," followed an hour later by "Mrs. Gold,
your husband did NOT have a heart attack but his EKG has changed from
the one taken Monday," followed three hours later by the discovery that
the current EKG had changed from the (resting) Monday one but was the
same as the (treadmill) last October one)

Upshot, is he okay?!

Umm, it's not that simple.

We found out this week (thanks to his new GP) that for ten years
his heart has been showing an area of under-oxygenation
when exercising -- and his cardiologist hasn't been telling us.

Filker friend and doctor Harry Brener says the cardiologist
"lacks sagacity" and sounded as if he was drastically
understating his feelings.

This under-oxygenation when exercising and/or after eating and/or
when emerging from anesthesia is why his hospital yesterday said
his EKG had changed.

Barry will probably have an angiogram and angioplasty later this
month. And get a new cardiologist.

For now, his kidney stones are broken up and he feels a bit tired and
his urine is pink and he has two or three or maybe four doctors
to see on Monday. He's going to have chicken soup for lunch and
go to bed. His urologist says he can drive and do anything else
he feels up to doing, but right now he doesn't feel up to going to work.
