Re: Keep or wind up my site?

Thank you for your very obliging answers.

I am also a Linux fan (I use Ubuntu Feisty Fawn) and I feel that the
lack of a plugin for it is a real loss. I tried to install the Win
plugin with the help of drivers like ndis and similar ones but it
didn't work at all. I also installed WinXP with the help of the
Innotek Virtualbox, but the plugin doesn't work properly -- not even
within a virtualbox equipped with Win! But, since the plugin works
both under Win and Mac (I have a MacBook too) without major problems,
and that it is malware-free, I wasn't afraid to ask people to use it.

Nevertheless you are certainly right, people using Win might be wary
of installing unknown software that uses DirectX routines. One can
never be careful enough...

The question of making available the music files as mp3s is a bit
ticklish. A music file encoded with Harmony Assistant occupies 10-30
kB. The resulting mp3, though, even if encoded in low-quality mono
takes up as much as 2 to 30 MB. Multiply this figure for 500 and
you'll get an idea of the total room I'd need on my server (I
calculated that I'd need almost a full TB). That's the reason why I
resorted to using the plugin.

But this is not the main reason why I'm asking. As you know the
difference between a machine-made musical performance and a human
performance is more or less the same difference existing between a
machine-made modern carpet and a true, ancient Persian carpet :) :)

Beyond the sheer fact that I made available some seldom heard pieces,
since there are so many good &/or excellent performers putting their
music for free on the net, I am wondering whether it is still
worthwhile to keep on publishing machine-made music.

Many thanks again.
