I knew Mary a little and met her a few times going back to the 60s. She

Not that she was unkind before. The last time a saw were was after a
PP&M concert in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was ailing then but performed
like the trouper she was. She will be missed.
At the 25th anniversary memorial of the Kent State shootings, I found
myself standing beside Peter, Paul and Mary. They were in the crowd
listening to the various speakers before they took the stage and
performed. That was one of the most memorable and moving live
performances I've ever attended.
I grew up in Danbury CT which is a stone's throw from Mary's home in
Redding (also home to Mark Twain's final home, "Stormfield"). When I
was in high school, Mary agreed to be interviewed by two of my
classmates for our school newspaper...and event they still warmly
remember.
I just heard from another classmate about how he often saw Mary on the
platform of the Redding train station, seeing her husband off to NYC.
I never saw her myself, but IIRC she was a customer at my late
father's friend's grocery store in nearby Bethel CT. Art Garfunkel
also shopped there. Dad often helped out at the store, and I remember
him coming home several weeks in a row, stating, "I saw Artie
tonight". Why the heck I didn't go with him...I don't know. I thnk
he may have seen Mary as well.
Speaking of Peter, Paul and Mary...when I was a little kid I saw them
sing, "Puff The Magic Dragon" to Carl Sandburg on the Today Show on
the occasion of his birthday. Can't remember if Garroway was the host
then or not. Anyway, Sandburg looked bemused by the whole thing.
btw, will you be going to the 40th commemoration of the Kent State
Massacre next year?
