If one look upon songs written just before Desolation Row
one can see titles like these:

June    1965
Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window
From A Buick
Jet Pilot
Like A Rolling Stone
Phantom Engineer
Sitting On A Barbed Wire Fence

July    1965
Ballad Of A Thin Man
Desolation Row

What I can see with some theories in mind are the strange
un-Dylan songs like "Jet Pilot" and "Phantom Engineer"
written some week before DR (Desolation Row).

And if one tries to decipher Bob's DR one can in fact focus
on these un-Dylan songs.

My personal theory is that Bob is used by Pentagon and CIA
in some kind of  strategic operation that Bob was
caught into. The P/C (Pentagon/CIA) OP (operation),
was to my idea written by P/C in about 1956.

OK.

What does P/C have in mind in 1956 then? Well a quick
idea is that P/C is angry at Robert Oppenheimer, RO, - the
father of the Atom-bomb. And RO was hence reported as
Non-USA loyal by the father of the Hydrogen-bomb. RO was
given away to FBI agents by Edward Teller in conjunction
when Teller and Oppenheimer was competing in a USA project
for the first Hydrogen bomb.

OK, so P/C are angry at Robert Oppenheimer in about 1952 when
Teller slanders Oppenheimer to the FBI. Later Robert Zimmerman
was secretly drafted into, even for Robert Zimmerman himself, the
operation, OP, when Robert Zimmerman did apply for West Point
as a 18th years unknown youth.

So Pentagon/CIA/West Point does make some kind of Voodoo deal
for Bob Dylan when Bob officially is rejected by West Point, but
unofficially is DRAFTED into this Robert Oppenheimer - Robert
Zimmerman Voodoo operation.

So when Bob is newly acquainted with Sara Lownds in about
March 1965, Pentagon is pushing the buttons for to activate the
Robert Oppenheimer - Robert Zimmerman - Bob Dylan operation.

And Bob Dylan writes songs like "Jet Pilot" and "Phantom
Engineer", when Sara Lownds begins to activate the Pentagon-
Voodoo with Bob Dylan.

One also needs some basic physics in university level that
Bob Dylan with a high probability was Voodoo- hinted from
Sara Lownds or some other near Pentagon agent. This may have
made Bob Dylan a bit over activated when Bob did try to
understand what (nuclear) physics the Pentagon was hinting at.
This may be indicated by the song "Ballad Of A Thin Man",
related to the energy consuming effort for Bob Dylan to
solve the nuclear physics of the Voodoo hints from Pentagon's
personnel aimed at Bob Dylan. This in conjunction to the next
song Bob writes some days later, Desolation Row.

One has to add that I have the idea of Bob being a Pierrot
with a strong democratic belief. There are Pierrots with
more republican ways of dealing. But Bob is, to my view, as
mentioned, strongly democratic in his believes.
It also helps to know that Pierrots, as personality types,
are known to be very rare in any population group. Also drawn
into circuses and such similar entertainment environments.
Didn't Bob say that he is a "Song and a Dance man" in some
interviews he did give during the 60's? OK.

My interpreting attempts in the brackets following for
the first verse:

Desolation Row

They're selling postcards of the hanging
(pentagon is hanging ro and such guys)
They're painting the passports brown
(pentagon acts non-democratic)
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
(pentagon also use hookers in this op)
The circus is in town
(pentagon folks mixed with pierrots)
Here comes the blind commissioner
(robert oppenheimer and robert zimmerman)
They've got him in a trance
(robert oppenheimer and robert zimmerman)
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
(circus ????? pierrot memories and e=mc*c)
The other is in his pants
(hooker ????? and e=mc*c/2)
And the riot squad they're restless
(pentagon supporters hinting e=mc*c)
They need somewhere to go
(the supporters spreading out)
As Lady and I look out tonight
(bob's dream of a pierrot lady)
From Desolation Row
(the pierrot's desolate feeling)

Well, this was the first verse, maybe you
self can decipher the coming lines with
the base idea of mine?

Good to see you in this thread LeoK.

The presence of your remarks invites my participation. I read earlier
in the thread about an interpretation concerning Desolation Row being
Bob's denunciation of Andy Warhol. I have not yet located Mr. Crow's
presentation, but using your method (with which I am now familiar) it
occurs to me that Warhol too is a pierrot and may have been similarly
positioned as an informer, as in informer of public opinion, as you
say Bob was. I have long had concerns about this Mr. Warhol much the
way you have held ideas about Mr. Dylan. Given this possibility, we
can extend your analysis to include the very real chances that there
was more than one pierrot in the field, along with other types of
informers, and perhaps not all of them under the same control. Could
it be that Bob recognized and rejected a fellow pierrot/informer, but
due to the risks involved, had to encode this rejection in a form
consistent with his primary role?

If this is indeed the case, then we can easily find a network of
influences utilizing pierrots and other personality types throughout
western culture that have been designed to advance various agendas for
their respective controllers, belying what is commonly perceived as
spontaneous cultural generation and proving that grass roots demand
for consumer culture and its associative ideology is in all reality
nothing more than an application of principle. To truly establish your
theory as fact, we have to locate it within a greater cosmology and
this possibility may be a a very real portal into its discovery.
