I watched a program on advertising a few months back. It was all about
how people are so inundated that advertisers are always looking for
something different to catch people's attention. And the big target
group now days are the Boomers. They were saying that the new thing was
"psychological advertising", to "sell people their culture". So be
prepared to be seeing a lot more of this type of thing.
All the up and coming advertising execs are young folks that weren't
around in the 60s and think it can be sold like this. I doubt it will
work as well as they think. In fact it will probably have a negative
impact in the long run. So maybe those types of ads won't last.
Younger folks don't seem to mind being targeted for manipulation, they
have grown up with it and accept it, but it sure pushes my buttons. This
is one reason I dislike seeing Dylan used in this way as well. To sell
us our culture. It's demeaning to say the least.
Yes, but the way you write that seems to be abdicating Dylan of any
responsiblity in the matter. ("I dislike seeing Dylan used in this
way.")
He's not a marionette...
