I was going to say, isn't it one of the less polluted areas, but
perhaps it's proximity to Vegas and Pheonix contradict that.
The Grand Canyon (like Yosemite) is a perfect example of how natural
wonders can get by perfectly well without god - it's the result of the
Colorado forcing it's way through what was once a desert. The oldest
exposed rock dates back 2 billion years, to when there was practically
no life on earth, before dinosaurs evolved.
