Why do we need "Official Bootlegs" when the digital quality produced
by many "undercover agents" can bring us whole tours (99% of them
anyway) in crystal clear sound?
It would be nice to think that Bob and or Columbia were at all
interested in serious documentation of the biggest live tour ever,
that's all!
I think Bob is very keen not to draw attention to the NET. He plays it
down, even denies its existance. He is happy to take part in projects
like No Direction Home because while everyone is fetishising his 1960s
self he is free to concentrate on his real work which is live night
after night in the halls and arenas of the world.
Once Dylan has gone I belive there will be a serious attempt to
document the Never Ending Tour. All the shows are recorded from the
desk so the work can be made available. I think it will blow people's
minds once they realise the sheer variety and scope of it. But for
now Dylan seems more than happy to do the work without that glare and
leave history to deal with it when he joins Elvis and Jimi.
