It's the music

This is perhaps heretical to say, but I think with both "Time Out of Mind" and "Modern Times" it's the music that is really happening and the lyrics, while good, don't break any new ground.
The music of both of these albums is an amazing compendium of American roots music. It's like going back to the late 40s and early 50s when elements of blues, country, folk, and gospel were about to get weaved together into rock and roll.
I think these last two albums are all about Dylan's love for and belief in that music. If at one time the music was primarily a vehicle for Dylan's great lyrics, I think now the lyrics are primarily a vehicle for the music.
Also, is there a better blues man left on the planet than Dylan?
