True, Van Morrison brought a jazzy post- r&b essence to songwriting, with a touch of garage thrown in. But a couple of good albums do not make Van Morrison one of the great singer songwriters of pop music.

Well it would be hard to find a singer-songwriter who rates Costello
above Van Morrison. Van is one of the greats and Costello is
comparatively a minor artist.
