Back in my early 20s I shared a flat with a crazy guy who thought he
was Jesus. He was the only person I knew in the city, and I was stoned
just about all the time and I ended up pretty messed up and burnt out.
Finally had to move out after he trashed the flat and tried to burn it
down.
Anyway . . . I moved in to a nice pleasant house by a park, got myself
straight and spent the summer listening to Self Portrait, Nashville
Skyline and Dylan. I've loved these albums ever since - to me they
sound like someone who has been burnt out and is now kicking back, not
changing the world or changing the face of music, just enjoying making
music, singing songs he clearly loves, trying different thing just for
the joy of it. and so I never get why these albums have to be
explained. For me when he sings la la la la la on Wigwam it is genius,
says everything just there.
