"Good Rockin' Tonight" by Winonie Harris predates "Rocket 88"
"Rocket 88" predates all of them.
I guess it predates Lawdy Miss Clawdy, but I like to think of it as
being
the start.

Well, a problem that I have with this list is the person who created it
doesn't seem to supply his reasons as to why he thought these consituted the
"first R&R" songs. Were these compiled simply because they are up for
discussion? Or is he stating that this is definitive?
In the end, it's going to be a matter of opinion. Does the listener believe
these songs are examples of early R&R?
I tried to find examples of each song up to Harris's "Good Rockin' Tonight",
which was the song I mentioned, (although I did not say it was the first R&R
record, I simply stated that it predated "Rocket 88").
I have difficulty accepting the first three examples as "rock and roll". To
me they are a mixture of swing and jazz. But not R&R. Others may differ.
However, 4 & 5 I do accept as R&R. Number 6 I don't think is R&R.
Number 7 I could not find an example of.
But Harris' "Good Rockin' Tonight" I have no trouble accepting as R&R.
I am surprised that this person, (whoever it was that created this list),
didn't include Amos Milburn's "Amos' Blues".
