Hi all,
I'm finally trying to compare Tangled up in tapes 1994 ed. and Tangled
2004 ed.
There are things in the subjective sphere that I can value and they
remain about my perception , my opinion, but there are other things I
think I could defy objective that I'd like to talk about.
The graphic - generally I prefer the 1994 version, starting from the
cover. But about the cover there are a few things more, the 1994
hardcover is great, it makes me feel the book as a nice object too, more
interesting even to have on the shelf and to show to someone.
Then there is a nice portrait of a RTR Bob, but even more the black
softcover of the 2004 ed. gets easily full of fingerprintings, and it
seems dirt. Not to name the scratches.
About the listings,
I like very much the 1994 ed.
it works like a hits chart but what is better to us, crazy guys, is that
it is really functional when you want to compare a show to another one,
you just have to follow the lines and easily realizing how many changes
of songs happened from show to show, I know that seeing the setlist,
sheet by sheet, seems more "comfortable" but in you wanna compare show
with show you gotta use memory if they are on different pages, then we
miss the details - acoustic, electric, acoustic/electric or viceversa.
In the 2004 ed. we got the ripetition of every single venue that we have
in the tour table too and which we had just there in the 1994 ed. but in
2004 ed. we have some more details on bands, and single musicians, as
you can easily compare looking the 1981 oct/nov tour tables.
At the end of the 1994 concert pages the first thing to follow was The
Missing Tapes page, that was REALLY useful in my opinion, why delete it
in 2004 ed.?
Then in the 1994 ed. we have a beautiful table of each song performed,
I think this originate the various tables we have in the 2004 ed.,
like divided by album, genre, some authors and so on, but what was more
interesting in the 1994 ed., to me, was the subdivision by years, with
even the total of songs performed by year, and then the total amount
since 1974.
The top 30 performed is the same as almost the pro-film and the listing
of performed songs, live or not, with the author.
Finally the paper quality of 2004 ed. is less than the 1994 ed, and we
can easily verify that on the b/w photo printings of the not coated
paper pages.
I definitively prefer the 1994 ed.
What about you?
bye
Michele
