No, but people usually say, "this is other people's work", or the assumption
is that it's the author of the posts own work (an assumption based on status
quo).

Because it makes a difference in the way people respond. If you don't want a
response, don't post. Otherwise if something's posted, it's nice to know the
reasons - are you just sharing? Do you want advice? do you have a question?
These were posted in the same way all kinds of spam is. As far as I know, it
was an advetisment for Virtual Composer (because we do see ads for all sorts
of things), and by not mentioning what they're for, people are likely to
ignore the post as spam, which may defeat the purpose of posting in the
first place.

You also didn't say they weren't. They say "based on a theme" by so and so,
which means they are not by Bach or Scarlatti, but someone else - by your
posting them other posters here would assume they are yours without any
information to the contrary (which is absent). Even the file names are at
best cryptic.

Yes. People sometimes post things around here with an intentional lack of
information for less than meritorious reasons. I'm just informing you of
that potentiality - I'm sorry you took it as an attack. If those fugues were
yours, it does make a big difference because most of us here would assume
you were posting them to get advice on them - and, Matt's notifying you
that one was an Invention would certainly be some worthwhile advice to a
composer who was trying to write a fugue but didn't quite understand the
form.

All you saw is an anonymous "John" who posted four links.

While in this day and age anonymity is important, it also, because of the
amount malintended posts around here, can lead to suspicion. I'm just simply
informing you that posting links without any other information would be seen
a suspicious by most other posters, and if you want to engage in
discussions, it might be more effective to let people know your intentions.

This is the entire point John. I can't give any useful advice to you about a
piece you did not compose.
