Isn't *any* foreign language "fiendishly difficult" for you American
guys?

Not really. German, for example, is relatively easy to pronounce
provided one isn't afraid to imitate the sounds he hears from a native
speaker.

And why would you be "afraid" to try imitating, or rather reproducing
those sounds?

The grammar takes a good bit more work, but it's doable.
Spanish, of course, is pretty easy (and pretty common these days, so if
one wants to practice, it's quite easy).
