There is really no need for you to play the misunderstood victim here.
Just be a little more honest in the future.
And - don't abuse such really serious subjects as what happened during
the Nazi era and what role prominent artists played in it just to
cover up your little gaffe.
And - don't try to regain the moral high ground after you were caught
plainly lying. It just gets you more egg on the face and it makes you
look like a real hypocrite.
