A Labor of love, A Labor of Necessity

A Labor of Love , A Labor of Necessity

The only LVB Symphony Cycle by Toscanini that matters.

Why?

"Only now, do I have the courage to play Beethoven as I feel it"

The Maestro to B.H.Haggin 1945

Sourced form the Musically bankrupt AT Collection CDS.

Of course I could do better with the master tapes before they were
digitally
mutilated. I have removed the incredible deep bass boost (150 and
below) and the
layer of free floating harmonics that don't belong from 800 to 16K
that cover
the Music and prevent us from hearing the two important elements that
help
define the intrinsic expression of Music, as defined so well by Ernest
Ansermet:

1)Proper Weight of attacks
2) Proper sonorous value of every voice

I suggest burning these flacs to CD and don't bother listening on your
computer
as the level will be low. Combined with the lack of false presence and
the fact
that you are used to the presence ubber alles school of acoustics on
recordings,it will sound weird to you on a computer where whether you
paid 1 or
200 bucks for your speakers the elements cost pennies to make.

Many myths are busted now

1) The NBC had a thin and harsh sound
2) Paolo Renzi sucked
3) Harry Glantz had the wrong sound for Orchestral playing
4) The Maestro played everything too fast, he pushed the music till it
broke and
his performances do not breathe, etc and etc. He was not Solti. He was
not
Lenny. He was an honest Musician with talent that put himself and
Ansermet in a
league by themselves, with Cantelli hanging on for dear life to be in
that
league miles ahead of everyone else

It is so nice to hear Music without the lumpy gravy or bass cuts that
we have
been plagued with since the dawn of the tape era. How much nicer is it
when the
true ambience of Carnegie, as captured by Richard Mohr, is given to
us. The
instruments have air around their sound and they blend naturally as in
the
Great Hall of Carnegie. The instruments have their proper timbre.

For those who prefer the presence ubber alles method that is foreign
to the laws
of physics of Musical sound, buy the CDS which are long oop

The level is lower due to the horrible things that Fierro made Lacey
do to these
tapes and what I had to do to fix it, but I can assure you that my
offering is
closer to the master tapes than the CDS. If not, then RCA Mics and RCA
tape
decks were the biggest pieces of crap ever foisted on the market

Anybody who believes that digital normalization does not effect the
timbre of
the Music when converted back to analogue, is either deaf or foolish.
And that
is why I did not normalize.I actually did but I equalized after I did.

Mastering= Equalization at a given amplitude.

Normalization is a digital theory that does not pass the test back to
analogue.
It is one of the reasons that CDS sound so harsh. It is not the fault
of
digital. Digital has NO sound. It is a storage medium. But it also so
lucid that
the incompetence of the mastering technician is magnified
geometrically

An analogy-- The man who went to Sarnoff's home every Friday to make
sure his
TVS did not fail over the weekend, and embarrass him in front of his
friends (
MY former business partner's [1977-2007] Father), made a lot of money
when TVS
went from tubes to transistors. The charlatans who could only change
tubes and
clean tuners were helpless to fix the TVS now. This man would go down
the bench
and tell the charlatan what was wrong with each TV, and what part
needed
changing, by looking at the symptoms. Same with the analogue mastering
technicians who hid behind the limitations of analogue. The lack of
understanding of what they are doing cannot be hidden in the digital
domain

Enough prologue and here are the links to enjoy. Remember what I said
about the
Finale of the First being the epitome of Classicism in the Maestro's
Hands
