Does Groups support killfiles?
No, we don't offer any killfile functionality in Google Groups.
Killfiles are offered in some Usenet readers, and allow you to
designate unwanted authors so that you won't see their future posts.

So what reader do you use to have killfile?

Google Groups ITSELF doesn't have killfiles. However, if you are using
Firefox as your browser, there is an add-on called Greasemonkey which will
support what are called "scripts." There is a script for Google Groups
Killfile, so install that and restart Netscape. From then on, whenever you
are browsing a thread, each name will have a link next to it which says,
"Ignore User." Click on that and then confirm it, and when you refresh the
page that user's posts will be invisible to you.

Since I subscribe to an independent service which gives me access to
Usenet, I use a dedicated reader called Xnews. Not only does Xnews have a
killfile that is very easy to use, there is also a button called "Skip
Quoted Text." Let's say Joe Blow responds to Annoying Troll and quotes
A.T.'s post. By clicking the aforementioned button, the reader window
skips past all of what A.T. had to say, hiding his post from me again.

I recommend Xnews highly, and Greasemonkey when using Google Groups.
Killfiling the trolls is the equivalent of locking Yosemite Sam in a glass
jar; he can jump around and kick and scream his ridiculous insults all he
wants, but his words will not be heard. Sweet, sweet silence!
