No -- I don't want to participate in a moderated, private or otherwise
restricted newsgroup. It's that simple.

The group I set up is not "restricted" in any way. It's simply set up
so troublemakers can't make trouble.

I am convinced that your intentions are good.

But again, a private forum is no substitute for an open, public forum.

Out of curiosity, however, I have a few questions about your Yahoo group.

After all, some of this newsgroup's best contributors have at times been
troublemakers or been less than 100% civil or engaged in political or other
off-topic discussions.

How do you define "troublemaker"?

How do you define behavior that is "not civil"?

What will happen to off-topic discussions?

Do persons whom you ban have any sort of recourse?

For how many years do you intend to maintain your group?

Who will eventually succeed you?

Will access always free of charge?

Does Yahoo have any sort interest, financial or otherwise?

Do participants implicitly sign their legal rights away?

Who owns the copyrights, by the way?

And so on.

As I have said before, I hope this forum will stay where it is -- firmly in
the public arena.

And I recommend using a personal spam/troll filter (aka killfile in one's
own newsreader).
