unfortunately, it is really easy. They are everywhere, and it is
like "hitting frogs" in an amusement park - you close up one, and it
instantly reappears elsewhere. This is because the Pirate Bay and
others revel in their "free speech", that is, stealing. Other sites
do take them out, if notified by IFPI or someone "official", but the
point is obviously that this is the upside down approach -
everything is considered legal and above board, until proven
otherwise, even when it must be totally apparent that it is a
copyright infringement. I cannot devote all my time to roaming the
Net and report to IFPI Sweden, who then reports to IFPI London, who
then tell the ISP to take it down. I do have a record company to
run and interesting repertoire to record.

Sorry to say, but in most countries, one is innocent until proven
guilty. These torrent sites do aid in the distribution of quite a lot
of legal content, as well as that which infringes copyright. So why
not take them out? Why not take out the ISPs and phone companies,
who make so much money by selling broadband, which, obviously, is
used to download illegal content. Oh, and why not shut down USENET
while you're at it? Tons of illegal stuff here, and your ISP is the
one hosting it.

See, that's the whole problem. You either accuse everyone and shut
everything down, or you don't.

Interesting that yet another survery showed, recently, that
downloaders buy more music than non-downloaders...

One question, Robert: are you selling less than before?

You do have a point, and I do realize that there is a big conflict of
interests here. However, there cannot be too much of a problem, when
someone is uploading a movie, computer game or CD, to have it vetted
before, whether it is OK or not. If the DSP:s would be held
financially responsible, they'd come up with a system quicker than I
can write it...

To answer your last question: OH, BROTHER, YES. And going down all
the time.
We actually sell about as many CD:s today as we did 10 years ago, in
spite of having some 600 more titles to sell.

That could well be due to these financial hard times and not illegal
downloads. Speaking for myself only, I have more legally purchased music
than I might ever get a chance to listen to.

A new release then
almost never failed to hit the 2'000 mark within months, now 1'000 of
the exactly same type of music is really good. Had we not had the
huge back catalogue, which is always in stock, and all those secondary
rights, we couldn't possibly survive on today's selling of the new
stuff.
