That 'God sees the sparrow fall' doesn't signify any 'protection'. Time as 'the 4th dimension' in this universe has entirely different characteristics in God's place. He has 'time' to observe everything, including the death of a sparrow. If sparrows have souls, they are 'saved'. Pretty much the same deal with humans, except that we have the capability of awareness.
