Re: Query: Fleisher solo reissues at ArkivMusic

I just received my order of these reissues, and the sound is pretty
impressive overall. The Brahms F Minor Quintet with the Julliard is
particularly impressive, compared to the sound I could obtain from the
Epic LP for my own transfer. The source material being the master
tapes was confirmed by e-mail exchange with ArkivMusic's customer
service. Also that (unfortunately) they are still issued on CD-R.
Anyone with an interest in Leon Fleisher's artistry should invest in
these, esp. to support such endeavors.

A confession: I haven't bought terribly many new classical CDs lately,
other than subscribing to those on the Marston label. I've been too
absorbed over the past several years making my own, from 78s and LPs.
But I was spurred by the latest issue of International Piano Quarterly
(with a glowing feature article on, and cover photo of, LeonFleisher), to investigate the reissues of old Columbia Masterworks
solo piano LPs on ArkivMusic. Now I already own the LPs (some even in
multiple copies), and have transferred a few myself. But I know that
playing back from the vinyl has some sonic limitations (even using
ClickRepair).

My question is whether these new transfers (which I assume have been
done with the cooperation of Sony/BMG) are taken from the master
tapes, and remastered to produce sound better than the vinyl records
could ever give (similar to what was done with the Brahms Concerti
with Szell) -- or whether they are straight transfers from the vinyl
records. If the latter, I would like to save my money.

Has anyone bought any of these, and can they share their impressions?
